Ceramics is a way for me to create something that is both useful and beautiful. I strive to make my functional pieces feel good in the users’ hands. To this end, there is always a dance between balance, size, weight and proportion. When it all comes together along with a complimentary glaze(s) then I have achieved my goal. I also immensely enjoy incorporating natural materials such as found stones, driftwood, grasses and wire. These additions can take a piece from the functional realm to art. This is where I can leave the necessities of a functional piece and focus on proportion, balance and how the mixed materials work best with each other. Nature provides inspiration with her organic forms and offerings.
